<p>If you have ever watched television at 2:30AM I am sure you have noticed a plethora of infomercials extolling the virtues of various different <strong>weight loss products</strong>.</p>
<p>“Lose the belly fat in 15 days GAURANTEED!”</p>
<p>“The fastest way to lose weight EVER”</p>
<p>“Eat anything you want, whenever you want, and LOSE weight”</p>
<p>The claims are outrageous, the acting is pretty bad, and the products usually have fairly silly names. Normally I turn my nose up to these products, but recently I have been wondering if any of them actually work.</p>
<p>One of the most common weight loss products sold through these infomercials has got to be the belly zapper, fat blaster, or whatever it’s being called these days. This is the product that supposedly takes away all that unwanted belly fat and gives you six pack abs without you ever having to get off the couch.</p>
<p>You know what I am talking about. This is the one where you wrap a belt looking device around your stomach and press the on switch. The “zapper” then starts blasting your belly with low voltage electric shocks to stimulate the muscles. The idea is supposed to be that if you get the muscles to move on their own you can build up your abs without ever moving the rest of your body. A true lazy man’s way to a fabulous stomach.</p>
<p><strong>But does it work?<span id="more-117"></span></strong></p>
<p>Of course not! Of all the weight loss products I have seen over the years this has got to be the most silly.</p>
<p>First of all you have to understand that all weight loss programs consist of two very important components:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>1. </strong><strong>The Diet – </strong>This fat zapping product does not address the healthy eating aspect of weight loss at all. This is of course a pretty serious oversight in most of these commercials. Let’s pretend for a moment that this little belly electrocuting belt actually will give your stomach a work out. If you do not change your eating habits you are still going to have a flabby gut! In fact if the exercise worked, but you’re eating habits didn’t change your gut would get even bigger because the new muscle would push the fat out. On this count this weight loss product absolutely <strong>FAILS! </strong><strong> </strong></li>
<li><strong>2. </strong><strong>The Exercise – </strong>Now let’s talk about exercise. The only thing that shooting an electrical impulse into your stomach is going to do is cause a reflexive twitch in the muscles. It is not really making the muscles work. To build muscle you must first work hard enough to tear the muscle down. Then the brain will tell your body to produce more HGH and rebuild the broken down muscle even stronger than it was before. This is an effect that those sad electrical induced muscle twitches certainly will not cause. Once again this weight loss product <strong>FAILS!</strong></li>
</ol>
<p>So save yourself some money and stay away from this little belly electrocution machine. There are plenty of good <strong>weight loss products</strong> out there, but in my experience they are few and far between.</p>
<p>Look, if you are really serious about losing weight the best thing you can do is start educating yourself about weight loss. Learn about the different diets programs, weight loss products and supplements available and choose one that feels right for you. Remember, everyone is different so what works for one person might not work for you at all. Use common sense, listen to your body, and then pick the weight loss products and other diet tools that you truly believe will help you get the body you desire.</p>
<p>If you look around this site you will notice that I am a pretty big advocate of Fat Loss 4 Idiots and Turbulence Trainer. No I don&#8217;t agree with everything they say on their websites, but I do sincerely believe that these weight loss programs are absolutely legitimate and WORK.</p>

<p>There are two primary components to every weight loss program: A healthy eating plan and a good fitness program. Oftentimes people are moderately successful with the eating part of their diet, but have a hard time with the fitness part. The more overweight and out of shape a person is, the harder it can be to exercise on a consistent basis.</p>
<p>The best exercises for weight loss are cardiovascular ones. These are the exercises that really get your heart pumping. Unfortunately, for cardio workouts to be successful you need to be able to do them for an absolute minimum of 20 minutes. Most dieticians would say that 45 – 60 minutes is the ideal cardio workout range if you want to maximize your weight loss.</p>
<p>For someone who is not in the greatest physical condition this can be a very hard goal to reach – sustained cardio exercises can be extremely grueling. If you are just starting out, or you have physical injuries that make intense cardio sessions impossible, you should consider walking as a good lower intensity alternative to exercises like jogging. In fact you do not even need to walk at a brisk pace; going out for a leisurely 2 mile stroll will actually burn more calories than if you went for a faster more intense 3 mile walk. <span id="more-108"></span></p>
<p>In the long run more intense walks are what you should be aiming for so you can get an aerobic workout and build your endurance. What is nice about starting out with easy walking is that if you combine it with a good eating plan you will definitely lose weight. It also allows you to ease your way into those higher intensity workouts. You can slowly build your endurance and strength overtime. One of the biggest mistakes that new dieters make is trying to jump immediately into a high intensity diet plan from day one. That kind of dieting almost always leads to failure. Condition your body slowly overtime; you will make it into the high intensity range without even realizing it because you are allowing your body to get there naturally.</p>
<p>One of the nicest things about walking to lose weight is that you will be able to have longer cardio sessions. Take advantage of this. As mentioned above the most effective cardiovascular exercises should last about 45 – 60 minutes. With walking you will find that after that 60 minute mark is up you still have plenty of energy, try to push yourself for another 20 – 30 minutes and you will drop the weight faster than you ever thought possible.</p>

<p>There have been a lot of different diet fads over the years. Some are highly effective while others are nothing more than smoke and mirrors. Trying to figure out the good diets from the bad can be a herculean task. What I want to talk about now is one of the most popular diets of the day: The Atkins diet.</p>
<p>The Atkins diet was created by Dr. Atkins. It is based around one simple idea – cut carbs and increase protein consumption. You see our bodies can use both carbohydrates and protein to create energy. The difference between the two is that carbohydrates metabolize extremely fast. Basically our bodies use them up really fast. If our diets are heavy in carbs the end result is increased hunger because of how fast our bodies process carbohydrate rich foods. More hunger equals more food which equals more calories. You can probably see where this is going. The more calories you take in the harder it will be for you to lose weight and if you take in too many calories you will actually gain weight.</p>
<p>By cutting out the carbohydrates and upping our consumption of protein we force our bodies to rely heavily on protein for its energy. Protein metabolizes relatively slowly which will encourage the body to burn some stored fat for bursts of energy. Also because protein gets used up slowly we stay full longer after eating protein rich foods. That is why it is said that protein increases our satisfaction with our meals.</p>

<p>The nice thing about the Atkins diet is that we can still eat foods that would be denied to us under other diet plans. Egg&#8217;s (with the yolk), steaks, cheeses and other foods that are considered big no-no&#8217;s with a lot of diets are all acceptable under this plan.</p>
<p>For long term success you are not supposed to eat protein based foods alone. You restrict yourself to only protein for the first couple of weeks. The goal of the first two weeks is to change your body from a carb burning machine into a fat burning machine. After these two weeks are up you should gradually begin to introduce carbohydrates back into your diet, but they should only be a small part of your diet. There are some foods that are absolutely forbidden. Anything made out of refined sugar is off limits. You have to kiss your white breads good bye. Also white rice, potatoes, and anything made out of white flour is gone for good.</p>
<p>I should note that many people have questioned whether or not this diet is healthy in the long run. On that point I cannot comment, but I will say that so many people have had success with the Atkins diet no one can question whether or not you will lose weight with it.</p>

Now I don&#8217;t agree with everything said on the Fat Loss 4 Idiots website &#8211; for instance I do think that low calories and low carb diets actually do work fairly well. Nevertheless this does not change the fact that I think Fat Loss 4 Idiots has developed one of the simplest to follow and most innovative weight loss systems around.</p>
